The Missouri Valley Historical Society (1913-1940) was the successor to the Kansas City Historical Society (1906-1913) and the Early Settler's Society and Historical Association (1896-1906). All these organizations focused on the history of the Kansas City area and the region in general. The Society was especially active during the presidency of John Barber White (1913-1923).The collection consists of official records, correspondence, and business records of the organization. Historical material may be found in vertical files, manuscripts, scrapbooks, etc. The collection also includes the papers of the Gold Star League which contains photographs, correspondence, and biographical sheets on soldiers of World War I from the Kansas City area.

Fire Truck From Yesteryear Installed at Union Station

A cherry-red 1918 American LaFrance, "the oldest known example of a motorized fire truck that once saw service in Kansas City, was installed Wednesday in a new museum space at Union Station." The Kansas City Fire Historical Society is leasing the space just inside the door on the lower level of the station. The station already has a 1928 Ahrens-Fox fire truck which is parked out front. The society also has a 1927 Ahrens-Fox model which will find a home at the station too. "The society hopes to raise $1.6 million to eventually enclose the space around the lower-level entrance to Union Station to house its collection of fire memorabilia...."

Book containing information related to the convention of the State Centennial Comittee of One Thousand that met in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 24-25, 1916. The book contains a program of events, a list of committee members, an address to the people of Missouri concerning the celebration of Missouri's centennial, and a form of constitution and by-laws for local historical societies. The meeting took place at the Hotel Muehlebach. The address to the people of Missouri was delivered by Walter B. Stevens of the State Historical Society of Missouri.
