This article gives the history of the Kansas City Museum. According to the article it was Olive Hoggins, who in 1939, became the first woman with the idea of turning the R. A. Long mansion into a museum. A Museum Association was incorporated and the Long residence was deeded to them in 1939. Many others became involved and by 1948 the City Council voted to take over the museum and its maintenance.
