Thomas Swope Murder Case
-
Description
-
A collection of 130 pages of photocopied articles from local newspapers focused on determining whether or not Colonel Thomas Swope was poisoned. Swope died in October of 1909, and his son-in-law, Dr. Bennett Clark Hyde, was eventually charged with his murder and found guilty in 1910. Hyde appealed to the Missouri Supreme Court, and two controversial retrials ended in hung juries and a fourth was never held. Swope's death remains a mystery. Each article is annotated with its date and source of publication.
