Charles E. Curran, 'the Best in Philanthropy,' Dies at 84

Kansas City civic leader and philanthropic pioneer Charles E. Curran died February 13, 2008, at the age of 84. Curran came to Kansas City in 1952 to work for city manager L. P. Cookingham and later became assistant city manager. During the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s he was vice president and later president of the Kansas City Association of Trusts and Foundations, later known as the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. According to the article, he was credited with saving Kansas City public television in the 1970s. He was also on numerous boards in the community. He will be remembered as being "dedicated to establishing a city public hospital, helping to found Truman Medical Center" and for supporting early-childhood education.
