The Union Pacific railroad, the first to enter Kansas City, was opened as far as Lawrence, Kansas, in December, 1864. The next to come was the Missouri Pacific, which was opened for business in October, 1865. These met at the state line, and began the railroad occupation of the West Bottoms.
