Biographical article about John Roland Kerr (1834-1929), a Santa Fe Trail guide and member of the Old Plainsmen Association. Kerr settled in Independence, Missouri, in 1856 and served under General Sterling Price during the Civil War. Throughout the 1860s, Kerr and his partner, Preston "Pete" Parker, led wagon trains westward through hostile Indian territory. His and Parker's plains adventures were published in the June 7, 1929, issue of the Independence Examiner newspaper.
