Kansas City Has a New Zoning and Development Code
-
Description
-
Review of how Kansas City's City Council adopted a new zoning code in 2009, "the first complete rewrite of its zoning code in over 80 years." One of the changes is that the New Zoning Code is much easier to read and understand. "Not only does the New Zoning Code have far fewer zoning districts (four base zoning districts) but it is filled with clear, concise tables and graphic designs that really guide the reader to what is allowable in a given district." Article includes samples of the charts. Footnote 17 gives the precise details: "Ordinance No. 081033, passed May 21, 2009 (the New Zoning Code became optional for use on December 1, 2009, and was originally scheduled to become mandatory on June 1, 2010; however, mandatory implementation of the New Zoning Code has been delayed until January 1, 2011)."
