J.L. Wilkinson is to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. on July 30, 2006. Article details Wilkinson's contributions to baseball. "He was the only white owner when he co-founded the Negro National League in 1920, introduced night baseball five years before the major leagues and signed Jackie Robinson to his first professional contract." He used gimmicks as mascots and musical groups to try and draw crowds and "is considered by many the father of baseball's globalization".
