In February 1941, Wilbur enlisted in the U. S. Army and he died on July 27, 1943, while in combat at the Rendova Island during the campaign for the capture of the Munda Air Field.

The Silver Star was presented to his wife, Gene Beauchamp.

Shea was born May 5, 1919, in Kansas City Missouri, and attended Southwest High School, Rockhurst College, and the University of Missouri. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941, and was commissioned a bomber pilot in 1942. He was killed in a collision of two bombers on September 24, 1942, while training in Arizona.

Portrait of John Raymond Winslow, a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. He was born on September 28, 1921 in Chanute, Kansas to David and Sylvia Winslow. The family moved to Kansas City, Kansas, in 1930, graduating from high school in 1939. In 1942, after finishing junior college in this area, he enlisted and trained at Randolph Field in Texas. He left the United States in March of 1944 for duty in the Italian campaign, attached to 87th Fighter Squadron, 79thFighter Group, 12th Air Force. His last mission was June 8, 1944, falling into enemy territory somewhere in northern Italy. His body was returned to the United States in 1949 and he is buried in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. He left a wife Betty and two sons.

A view of First Lieutenant Frazier R. Stair, 430th Fighter Squadron, 47th Fighter Group, Ninth Army Air Force, positioned in his airplane. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 9, 1920, and graduated from Westport High School and Kansas City Junior College. He was a member of the National Guard, State of Missouri, 110th Engineer Combat Battalion. After entering the Army Air Corp he went overseas in the spring of 1944 as a Second Lieutenant Fighter Pilot of a P-38. He lost his life on November 6, 1944, on a bombing mission over Germany. He was awarded many medals and is buried in Hamm Cemetery in Luxemborg.

Dawn Worth Darlington

Portrait of Dawn Worth Darlington, member of the United States Marine Corp. He was born May 31, 1925, at Atlanta, Kansas, son of Hubert and Iris Darlington. On May 21, 1943, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was called to active duty June 21, 1943. He was sent overseas the early part of May in 1944 to the Russell Islands in the Pacific Ocean, 60 miles from Guadacanal. He landed with the first troops at Palau Islands on September 15, 1944, and was with the 5th Marines of the First Marine Division acting as a machine gunner. He was hit with heavy machine gun and rifle fire and died September 26, 1944, on Pelaliu, Palau Islands. His body was returned to the United States in 1948 and he is buried in Atlanta, Kansas.

Portrait of William W. Jacoby, World War II pilot. He was born on October 19, 1919, at Trail, British Columbia, Canada. He moved to Kansas City in 1922 and graduated from Paseo High School, working at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant before enlisting. He received his wings in May 1944 at Lubbock Field, Texas. He was a pilot on a P-47 Thunderbird and was reported missing March 18, 1945, with his death confirmed May 24, 1945. He is buried in a United States Military Cemetery near Liege, Belgium.

Portrait of Willard John Humphreys, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Humphreys was born May 5, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Southwest High School, the New Mexico Military Academy, and Charleston College in Minnesota. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on March 25, 1944, and was sent to the Pacific on November 25, 1944. He was stationed on Guam until February 1945, and then stationed at Iwo Jima. While fighting at Iwo Jima on March 4, 1945, Humphreys was mortally wounded and died from his injuries on March 6, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart, a Presidential Unit Citation, and a World War II Victory Medal.

He married Verdella Rothband on June 29, 1943, and in October was sent to the southwest Pacific. He was killed in action on May 1, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal.

He was with Patton's 3rd Army, driving cars and jeeps for the military. He was injured while driving a jeep pursuing German soldiers, dying June 14, 1945. Services were held in Kansas City on December 4, 1948, and he is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.

He was called to active duty in September and after earning his wings, he was transferred to the U. S. Marine Air Corps. He died on August 30, 1943, during a practice flight with his Bomber Training Unit.

He enlisted on February 2, 1942, and was trained as a Torpedo Bomber Pilot. He was wounded while over Hong Kong on January 16, 1945, and died in the Ofuna Prison Camp in Japan on January 26, 1945. He was awarded the Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, the Gold Star, and four Air Medals.

He enlisted on October 14, 1942, and in December of 1943, was sent to Italy for combat. On February 25, 1944, his plane was attacked by German fighters and was shot down. He was one of six men that were not able to escape the plane and died. He was awarded the Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a Presidential Citation, the European Theatre Ribbon with four Battle Stars, the Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Ribbon, and a Victory Medal.

In December of 1943, he was sent to Italy after receiving his assignment as a Tail Gunman on a liberation bomber. He was reported MIA while over Austria on May 30, 1944, and it was later confirmed that he was killed in action. He was awarded an Air Medal, a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.
