Title: Floyd Edwin Wilhelm
Description: Portrait of Captain Floyd Edwin Wilhelm who was born October 7, 1922, in Jonesboro, Illinois, son of William and Alice Wilhelm. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II for more than four years and carried out Berlin Airlift missions, attached to the 317th Troop Carrier Wing. He served nine months in the Korean War. He was the first pilot in charge of an R. B. 45 to fly a non-stop jet from San Francisco to Japan unescorted, making the trip in September 1951. He lost his life October 20, 1952, while giving jet training, leaving a wife Delilah and five children.

Title: John Owen Beauchamp, Jr.
Description: Portrait of John Owen Beauchamp, Jr., a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. Beauchamp was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on April 25, 1923. He attended Southwest High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps on May 13, 1943. In February 1945, he was sent to Germany and killed in action an April 16, 1945. The Silver Star was presented to his wife, Gene Beauchamp.

Title: John Raymond Winslow
Description: Portrait of John Raymond Winslow, a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. He was born on September 28, 1921 in Chanute, Kansas to David and Sylvia Winslow. The family moved to Kansas City, Kansas, in 1930, graduating from high school in 1939. In 1942, after finishing junior college in this area, he enlisted and trained at Randolph Field in Texas. He left the United States in March of 1944 for duty in the Italian campaign, attached to 87th Fighter Squadron, 79thFighter Group, 12th Air Force. His last mission was June 8, 1944, falling into enemy territory somewhere in northern Italy. His body was returned to the United States in 1949 and he is buried in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. He left a wife Betty and two sons.

Title: Frazier R. Stair
Description: A view of First Lieutenant Frazier R. Stair, 430th Fighter Squadron, 47th Fighter Group, Ninth Army Air Force, positioned in his airplane. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 9, 1920, and graduated from Westport High School and Kansas City Junior College. He was a member of the National Guard, State of Missouri, 110th Engineer Combat Battalion. After entering the Army Air Corp he went overseas in the spring of 1944 as a Second Lieutenant Fighter Pilot of a P-38. He lost his life on November 6, 1944, on a bombing mission over Germany. He was awarded many medals and is buried in Hamm Cemetery in Luxemborg.

Title: Dawn Worth Darlington
Description: Portrait of Dawn Worth Darlington, member of the United States Marine Corp. He was born May 31, 1925, at Atlanta, Kansas, son of Hubert and Iris Darlington. On May 21, 1943, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was called to active duty June 21, 1943. He was sent overseas the early part of May in 1944 to the Russell Islands in the Pacific Ocean, 60 miles from Guadacanal. He landed with the first troops at Palau Islands on September 15, 1944, and was with the 5th Marines of the First Marine Division acting as a machine gunner. He was hit with heavy machine gun and rifle fire and died September 26, 1944, on Pelaliu, Palau Islands. His body was returned to the United States in 1948 and he is buried in Atlanta, Kansas.

Title: William W. Jacoby
Description: Portrait of William W. Jacoby, World War II pilot. He was born on October 19, 1919, at Trail, British Columbia, Canada. He moved to Kansas City in 1922 and graduated from Paseo High School, working at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant before enlisting. He received his wings in May 1944 at Lubbock Field, Texas. He was a pilot on a P-47 Thunderbird and was reported missing March 18, 1945, with his death confirmed May 24, 1945. He is buried in a United States Military Cemetery near Liege, Belgium.

Title: Willard John Humphreys
Description: Portrait of Willard John Humphreys, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Humphreys was born May 5, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Southwest High School, the New Mexico Military Academy, and Charleston College in Minnesota. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on March 25, 1944, and was sent to the Pacific on November 25, 1944. He was stationed on Guam until February 1945, and then stationed at Iwo Jima. While fighting at Iwo Jima on March 4, 1945, Humphreys was mortally wounded and died from his injuries on March 6, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart, a Presidential Unit Citation, and a World War II Victory Medal.

Description: Portrait of Giles J. Smith, Jr., a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Marines. Giles, also known as Jim, was born on March 9, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri. Giles, a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity while at the University of Missouri, received his commission as a fighter pilot on June 26, 1943. He married Verdella Rothband on June 29, 1943, and in October was sent to the southwest Pacific. He was killed in action on May 1, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal.

He was injured while driving a jeep pursuing German soldiers, dying June 14, 1945. Services were held in Kansas City on December 4, 1948, and he is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Title: Henry Boshell
Description: Portrait of Henry Boshell, a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. Boshell, also known as Bud, was born July 31, 1921. He attended the Greenwood School and Central High School in Kansas City, graduating in 1938. After graduation, Boshell entered a one year Army training program and eventually left for Goose Bay in Labrador on April 9, 1944, from Tampa, Florida. It was during this trip that his plane, a B-17, went down in a severe storm.
