Portrait of Charles Edward Epp, a 2nd Lt. in the U. S. Marine Air Corps. Epp was born on September 20, 1923, in Kansas City, Missouri, and enlisted in the Navy V-5 program in June 1942. He was called to active duty in September and after earning his wings, he was transferred to the U. S. Marine Air Corps. He died on August 30, 1943, during a practice flight with his Bomber Training Unit.

Portrait of Richard L. Hunt, Jr., a Lieutinent in the U.S. Naval Air Force. Hunt was born on December 23, 1921, in Keytesville, Missouri. His family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1923, and he attended Paseo High School and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He enlisted on February 2, 1942, and was trained as a Torpedo Bomber Pilot. He was wounded while over Hong Kong on January 16, 1945, and died in the Ofuna Prison Camp in Japan on January 26, 1945. He was awarded the Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, the Gold Star, and four Air Medals.

Portrait of Clifford D. Williams, Jr., a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Williams was born on January 21, 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended East High School. He enlisted on October 14, 1942, and in December of 1943, was sent to Italy for combat. On February 25, 1944, his plane was attacked by German fighters and was shot down. He was one of six men that were not able to escape the plane and died. He was awarded the Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a Presidential Citation, the European Theatre Ribbon with four Battle Stars, the Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Ribbon, and a Victory Medal.

Portrait of Robert H. Davis, a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps. Davis was born on Spetmeber 17, 1919, in Kansas City, Missouri, and enlisted on June 16, 1942. In December of 1943, he was sent to Italy after receiving his assignment as a Tail Gunman on a liberation bomber. He was reported MIA while over Austria on May 30, 1944, and it was later confirmed that he was killed in action. He was awarded an Air Medal, a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.

He attended the University of Missouri and was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. He received his training at Luke Field in Arizona and was a pursuit flight commander in the Army Air Corps.

Portrait of Lt. Gilbert L. Worley, Jr., a flyer in the United States Army. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, April 12, 1920. He graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and from Kansas University in 1941 where he started his flying courses. His training was completed at Ong Field and he was qualified as a navigator and ground school instructor. In 1942 he completed his training to become an Army flyer. He was killed in an airplane accident on a flight to Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 15, 1943.

He enlisted on November 28, 1942, and was first sent to Africa and then to Sicily. He was killed in action on August 4, 1943, and awarded the Silver Star.

Portrait of John Gray, Jr., a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. Gray was born in Creighton, Missouri, on May 26, 1920, and attended Creighton High School. He enlisted on August 6, 1942, and was sent to Europe on August 17, 1944. While in France crossing the Moselle River, his company assault boat, under the command of George Patton, was ambushed by German fire and the entire crew was killed in action on Novemner 15, 1944.

He was wounded in action on November 15, 1943, and returned for hospitalization in the United States on April 22, 1943. He died from his injuries on August 24, 1944.

Portrait of Charles O. Rogers, a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class in the U. S. Coast Guard. Rogers was born on December 14, 1907, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Mr. and Mrs. William H. Rogers. The Rogers family moved to Kansas City in 1909. Rogers was married to Rose Gerig Krumps on October 20, 1933, and enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard on April 29, 1942. He died on August 29, 1944, while in route to his Coast Guard boat in New Orleans after being struck by a civilian vehicle.

Griffin entered the Army in 1940 and he was married on August 1, 1942, to Mary Jane Kunodle. Griffin was killed in action in July of 1943 when his plane was shot down over Naples, Italy. He was awarded three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Purple Heart.

He enlisted in September of 1942, and, after earning his wings, was stationed in northern France at Cambrai. He was killed in a mid air collision on February 25, 1945. He was awarded the Air Medal, three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.

In 1928 his family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he finished high school at Westport High School in 1929. After working for the Kansas City Fire Department for five years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 27, 1942. He died on November 22, 1944, while in combat in Germany.

He was awarded four medals, four Presidential Citations, eighteen Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.
