Portrait of Charles Edward Epp, a 2nd Lt. in the U. S. Marine Air Corps. Epp was born on September 20, 1923, in Kansas City, Missouri, and enlisted in the Navy V-5 program in June 1942. He was called to active duty in September and after earning his wings, he was transferred to the U. S. Marine Air Corps. He died on August 30, 1943, during a practice flight with his Bomber Training Unit.

Portrait of Charles O. Rogers, a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class in the U. S. Coast Guard. Rogers was born on December 14, 1907, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Mr. and Mrs. William H. Rogers. The Rogers family moved to Kansas City in 1909. Rogers was married to Rose Gerig Krumps on October 20, 1933, and enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard on April 29, 1942. He died on August 29, 1944, while in route to his Coast Guard boat in New Orleans after being struck by a civilian vehicle.

He was educated in Kansas City, Missouri, and participated in numerous school activities. After his military training, Teaney was stationed in Europe and was killed in action on January 16, 1945, in Linz, Germany.

Portrait of Clifford D. Williams, Jr., a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Williams was born on January 21, 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri, and attended East High School. He enlisted on October 14, 1942, and in December of 1943, was sent to Italy for combat. On February 25, 1944, his plane was attacked by German fighters and was shot down. He was one of six men that were not able to escape the plane and died. He was awarded the Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a Presidential Citation, the European Theatre Ribbon with four Battle Stars, the Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Ribbon, and a Victory Medal.

Portrait of Curtis S. Griffin, a Captain with the U. S. Army Air Corps. Griffin was born on April 11, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri. Griffin entered the Army in 1940 and he was married on August 1, 1942, to Mary Jane Kunodle. Griffin was killed in action in July of 1943 when his plane was shot down over Naples, Italy. He was awarded three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Purple Heart.

Portrait of David Buckner Willock IV, a 1st Lt. in the U. S. Army Air Corps. Wilcock was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 11, 1923, to David Buckner Willock and Myra A. Willock. He enlisted on January 26, 1942, as an air cadet and died on May 10, 1944, while on a mission in the Pacific. He was awarded four medals, four Presidential Citations, eighteen Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.

Dawn Worth Darlington

Portrait of Dawn Worth Darlington, member of the United States Marine Corp. He was born May 31, 1925, at Atlanta, Kansas, son of Hubert and Iris Darlington. On May 21, 1943, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was called to active duty June 21, 1943. He was sent overseas the early part of May in 1944 to the Russell Islands in the Pacific Ocean, 60 miles from Guadacanal. He landed with the first troops at Palau Islands on September 15, 1944, and was with the 5th Marines of the First Marine Division acting as a machine gunner. He was hit with heavy machine gun and rifle fire and died September 26, 1944, on Pelaliu, Palau Islands. His body was returned to the United States in 1948 and he is buried in Atlanta, Kansas.

He was wounded in action on November 15, 1943, and returned for hospitalization in the United States on April 22, 1943. He died from his injuries on August 24, 1944.

Floyd Edwin Wilhelm

Portrait of Captain Floyd Edwin Wilhelm who was born October 7, 1922, in Jonesboro, Illinois, son of William and Alice Wilhelm. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II for more than four years and carried out Berlin Airlift missions, attached to the 317th Troop Carrier Wing. He served nine months in the Korean War. He was the first pilot in charge of an R. B. 45 to fly a non-stop jet from San Francisco to Japan unescorted, making the trip in September 1951. He lost his life October 20, 1952, while giving jet training, leaving a wife Delilah and five children.

A view of First Lieutenant Frazier R. Stair, 430th Fighter Squadron, 47th Fighter Group, Ninth Army Air Force, positioned in his airplane. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 9, 1920, and graduated from Westport High School and Kansas City Junior College. He was a member of the National Guard, State of Missouri, 110th Engineer Combat Battalion. After entering the Army Air Corp he went overseas in the spring of 1944 as a Second Lieutenant Fighter Pilot of a P-38. He lost his life on November 6, 1944, on a bombing mission over Germany. He was awarded many medals and is buried in Hamm Cemetery in Luxemborg.

Portrait of Lt. Gilbert L. Worley, Jr., a flyer in the United States Army. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, April 12, 1920. He graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and from Kansas University in 1941 where he started his flying courses. His training was completed at Ong Field and he was qualified as a navigator and ground school instructor. In 1942 he completed his training to become an Army flyer. He was killed in an airplane accident on a flight to Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 15, 1943.

Giles, a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity while at the University of Missouri, received his commission as a fighter pilot on June 26, 1943. He married Verdella Rothband on June 29, 1943, and in October was sent to the southwest Pacific. He was killed in action on May 1, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal.

He attended the Greenwood School and Central High School in Kansas City, graduating in 1938. After graduation, Boshell entered a one year Army training program and eventually left for Goose Bay in Labrador on April 9, 1944, from Tampa, Florida. It was during this trip that his plane, a B-17, went down in a severe storm.

He enlisted on August 6, 1942, and was sent to Europe on August 17, 1944. While in France crossing the Moselle River, his company assault boat, under the command of George Patton, was ambushed by German fire and the entire crew was killed in action on Novemner 15, 1944.
