Marie Buford was born on May 17, 1922 to John W. and Verna L. Buford. At the age of seventeen, Marie Buford was admitted as a patient at the Kansas City Tuberculosis Hospital from about 1939-1941. Originally known as the Kansas City Tuberculosis Sanitarium, the hospital opened in December 1915. Built in response to the need for specialized tuberculosis care, it was located on a section of the Municipal Farm in Leeds. This collection contains 17 Wheezer newsletters published by the Hospital from 1929-1942, an issue of The Spark, and two scrapbooks.

This collection contains material transferred from the Kansas City School District to the Kansas City Public Library and the Missouri Valley Special Collections department, primarily in the early to mid 1990s. It has been divided into eight series groups and includes school ledgers and attendance books, photographs, Board of Education minutes on microfilm, school scrapbooks, Westport School District material, the Radio and Television Commission papers, and miscellaneous items as budget control summaries, property register and map, etc. The transfer also included school yearbooks and published school materials which were classified.

This collection consists of an enrollment book for Faxon School covering the school years 1906-07 through 1912-13. The book lists the following information for each student in 1st through 7th grades: name; age (in years and months); date of admission; previous school; grade; class; name of parent or guardian; occupation of parent or guardian; residence; birthplace of student; if and when they left during the school year; for what reason they left; number of days belonged, attended, absent, and tardy for each term and for the entire school year. For some years, teachers' names, students' vaccination status, or parent/guardian birthplace is listed.
