Grover Cleveland has stopped at the Coates House. ..the first time being in 1886 [sic], during his first term as president and shortly after his marriage to Frances Folsom, the daughter of his former law partner. They occupied in the hotel, suite No. 215, which was for years thereafter known as the Cleveland suite. Benjamin Harrison, who defeated Cleveland for the Presidency in 1888, only to be in turn beaten by Cleveland for the following term, was a guest at the Coates House during that first campaign. He occupied room No. 116, which is now [1926] used as a sample room.
