Portrait of John Gray, Jr., a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. Gray was born in Creighton, Missouri, on May 26, 1920, and attended Creighton High School. He enlisted on August 6, 1942, and was sent to Europe on August 17, 1944. While in France crossing the Moselle River, his company assault boat, under the command of George Patton, was ambushed by German fire and the entire crew was killed in action on Novemner 15, 1944.
