The Sunbonnet Babies fly their kites on a March, 1907, promotional calendar post card, mailed out by an early-day dry goods merchant in downtown Kansas City. The printed message, somewhat off center, gave this advice: Listen! To enjoy Spring do what Spring does, dress up. Sooner you buy new Spring clothes, longer you may enjoy them. Why not begin when Spring does? Sunbonnet Babies say: 'It makes a difference where you buy. We buy at The Mitchell Dry Goods Co., 1009-1011 Main St., Kansas City, Mo. The artist who painted the Sunbonnet Babies for post cards (probably a card for each month of the year) was B. L. Corbett and the design was copyrighted later by the Sunbonnet Baby company of Chicago. Merchants all over the country used them to advertise. Today rarity and a renewed interest in the quaint figures make the post cards, books and any piece of china picturing Sunbonnet Babies real collectors' items. Kansas City Times, March 1, 1973.
