Portrait of Richard L. Hunt, Jr., a Lieutinent in the U.S. Naval Air Force. Hunt was born on December 23, 1921, in Keytesville, Missouri. His family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1923, and he attended Paseo High School and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He enlisted on February 2, 1942, and was trained as a Torpedo Bomber Pilot. He was wounded while over Hong Kong on January 16, 1945, and died in the Ofuna Prison Camp in Japan on January 26, 1945. He was awarded the Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, the Gold Star, and four Air Medals.
