This scene of Walnut Street looking north near Petticoat Lane showed horse-and-buggy traffic, a street car and one lone automobile. The post card, printed in color, was copyrighted in 1906 by the Detroit Publishing Company. The sign at left identifies the H. L. Pitcher Clothing Co. at 1024-1026 Walnut. (This company was one of 68 retail clothiers listed in the classified section of the 1905 city directory.) H. L. Pitcher was president, J. B. Reichle vice-president, A. S. Ritter secretary and cashier and T. J. Ziegler, treasurer. The William R. Berry Piano Company and the Household Fair were next door. The city directory listed on the east side of Walnut The Fashion, (hats, caps and gloves) 1101-1103 Walnut, and Emery Bird Thayer on the northeast corner of 11th and Walnut. Beyond Emery Bird Thayer's the sign of Jenkins Music Store painted high on the brick building. The same directory gave this information: J. W. Jenkins, president; Fred B. Jenkins, vice-president, and Clifford W. Jenkins, secretary & treasurer. Kansas City Star, March 13, 1976.
