This post card, received in Kansas City in 1907, shows an early-day Evel Knievel, this one a daring young woman. The promotional card shows two pictures of Gertrude Breton in her black bloomers and white shirtwaist. The view at left shows her ready for the ascent and the other as she descends through the air to the landing ramp. Her perilous leap was made without mishap or benefit of parachutes. The card reads: Gertrude Breton. Premier Leap-the-Gap Bicycliste of the World. Using the steepest and highest incline and jumping a wider gap than any similar act in existence. Season 1908. Address all inquiries for terms, open time, etc. to me at Portland, Oregon. For parks this act can be engaged in conjunction with Harry Breton and his Flying Automobile - one week for each act - using the same structure. But Harry was secondary and in fine print! Kansas City Times, October 12, 1974.
