First Mansion Is Leased: Others Get Leasehold on 12th and Washington Corner

Illustration and article about the former Dr. Johnston Lykins residence, built in the mid-19th century at the southwest corner of 12th and Washington Streets as "Kansas City's first mansion." Later "an early home of the Barstow school" and then renovated into a hotel (called the Washingon Hotel and the Mondamin Hotel), "now the Roslin hotel."
