A collection of 106 pages of photocopied newspaper articles from the Kansas City Star and Kansas City Times detailing the crimes perpetrated by Thomas Preston Lamb and the subsequent investigation of those crimes. Lamb was accused of kidnapping and murdering Karen Sue Kemmerly, a twenty-four-year-old UMKC student around December 5, 1969, and of kidnapping Patricia Ann Childs the following January. While imprisoned during his trial, Lamb escaped from the Johnson County (Kan.) jail but was captured a short while later in La Cygne, Kansas. Lamb was found guilty of the kidnappings and murder, and was sentenced to three life terms. While incarcerated, he tried to have his sentence commuted based on his contention that he was suffering from gender confusion and required sexual reassignment surgery (this assertion was brought forth during the trial, as well). His motion was denied. Each article is annotated with its source and date of publication.
