In 1975, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Janssen Place Historic District and on the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1980. It was built in 1900 for Joseph M. Bernardin of the Bernardin Lumber Company. Located in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

Photograph of a pillar, part of the Janssen Place Residential District Main Entrance Gateway at the intersection of Janssen Place and 36th Street. The gate was constructed in 1897. In 1975, the neighborhood was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Janssen Place Historic District and on the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The buildings, along with all other buildings on the block bound by 47th Street, 46th Terrace, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Broadway, were demolished to make way for the Valencia Place office building project, the groundbreaking for which took place in November 1997.

Photograph circa 1980, looking north, at the west end of a home at 5410 NE Oak Ridge Drive, originally built around a log cabin in 1829 by James Compton. A Compton family member lived in the home until 1954, when it was sold to Louise Sandstrom who converted it into a restaurant. It opened in 1983 as Stroud's North, Oak Ridge Manor Restaurant & Bar. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1980 as the Dr. James Compton Residence.

Both buildings were built circa 1850 and are among the oldest buildings in Kansas City. The Manor Bakery building is visible in the background of the image.

Photograph of City Bank, at 1800 Grand Boulevard, circa 1980. The building opened as Grand Avenue Bank in 1976, and was designed by the Kivett & Myer architecture firm. The firm changed its name to City Bank and Trust Company in 1978. The Power and Light and Davidson buildings can also be seen in the background of the image, to the northwest.

Photograph of the St. Stephen's Catholic Church rectory at 1029 Bennington Avenue in the 1980s. Construction on the stone church building began in 1919. In 1990, the congregation was consolidated with the nearby Holy Trinity and St. Michael's churches in the St. Stephen's building, renamed Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. The rectory stands immediately south of the church.

Interior photograph of the chapel interior of the Westminster Congregational Church at the southwest corner of 36th and Walnut in the early 1980s. Pews, an organ, and alter can be seen in the image. Construction began on the original section of building in May 1904, and it was opened and consecrated in 1907. An addition was added in 1912. The building was still home to the same church at the time of the photo, but the shrinking congregation voted to disband in July 1995.

In 1990, the congregation was consolidated with the nearby Holy Trinity and St. Michael's churches in the St. Stephen's building, renamed Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. The school building was constructed circa 1960 adjacent to the north of the church, and closed in 2010 due to declining enrollment.
