Book (with numerous photos) about General John Joseph Pershing, or John Pershing, America's commanding general in France during World War I (appearing at the dedication of the World War I Liberty Memorial in Kansas City in 1921) and nicknamed Black Jack Pershing. Born in Linn County, Missouri, in 1860 and starting out as a teacher and lawyer before entering the military as an Indian fighter in the Southwest in the 1880s-1890s (stationed in Nebraska in 1891 to subdue rebellious Sioux Indians), then engaging in the Spanish-American War before leading troops against Mexican leader Pancho Villa just before World War I. Retiring from the military in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1924 and writing a Pulitzer Prize-winning book in 1932 called "My Experiences in the World War." Also namesake of Pershing Road in Kansas City between the Liberty Memorial and Union Station.
