Art Institute Honors Pryor

The Kansas City Art Institute has established a scholarship fund in the name of Leonard Pryor, a former art instructor at Lincoln High School and academic dean at the Art Institute. Pryor was the first African American graduate of the Art Institute and a former student of Thomas Hart Benton. The scholarship fund will assist minority students with the cost of tuition and supplies.

Architect Moshe Safdie enlists students from the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) to design and paint murals in the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in the Proscenium Theatre box seating area. The article gives a brief history of the Kansas City Art Institute and information about the mural project. The student team consists of 16, six graphic designers and 10 painters.

President of KC Art Institute to Retire

The Kansas City Art Institute president Kathleen Collins will retire in June 2011. She arrived at the institute in 1996, and since then the school's endowment doubled and enrollment rose. Collins held the post of president longer than anyone previously in the school's 125-year history.
