Description of his prominent role in the economy of early Saint Louis, starting with grocery stores, moving on to general stores, the "People's Savings Bank" in 1847, the city council, state cabinet specializing in finance, and finally "his present great wine business" under Isidor Bush & Company and Bush & Son & Meissner, including "'Bushberg,' the largest grape nursery in the United States, and one of the best vineyards in Missouri."
