The Westport Square development united the buildings on the block bound by Westport Road, Archibald Street, Broadway, and Pennsylvania Avenue into a shopping and dining center with a central courtyard in 1973.

Boley Building

Photograph, circa 1980s, of the Boley Building at 1130 Walnut St. It is named the Boley Building for the Boley Clothing Company that was its first occupant. Later, a Katz Drug Store and Three Sisters Clothing Store were housed there. The six-story building was designed by Kansas City architect Louis Curtiss in 1909 and is one of the first buildings in the world to utilize a glass curtain wall system. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

The Normandy was built in 1926, and demolished in 2002 with the site then used for parking. The Pink Garter stripclub can be seen to the north of the Normandy, and the Monarch Storage Warehouse, at 3829-3831 Main, can be seen to its south.

The restaurant and bar opened in 1975 in the building that was the former Doerschuk pharmacy. An establishment called the Old Stanley opened in 1987 under new ownership in the space after the New Stanley closed in 1985.

At the time of the photo, the building was owned by Ace Dickinson, who operated Ace's Rock Shop and Museum on the ground floor. The building is arguably the oldest extant commercial building in Kansas City, with some claiming it was constructed in 1843. Other sources suggest a date closer to 1850. The neighboring building, at 4116 Pennsylvania, can be seen to the right of Mabry Hall.

The Plaza Bowl bowling alley, at the left edge of the image, opened in 1940 and closed in 1978. The buildings were partially demolished for the construction of a Saks department store, which opened in 1982.

This block of buildings was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as part of the Ambassador Hotel Historic District and added to the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Construction began in 1922 and opened in 1923, this building was the first of J. C. Nichols' Country Club Plaza buildings, and was initially called the Suydam Building. At the far right of the image, construction is taking place on the dome and tower of a neighboring building.
