The building was constructed in the early 1920s, and served as a storefront and restaurant for decades before becoming offices for the neighboring Unicorn Theater Company. Grand Emporium Hotel and Saloon stands at 3832 Main, and opened in May 1982 as a bar, restaurant, and live music venue with plans for hostel-style rooms to rent on the second floor. It changed ownership several times before closing in 2007. Belman Garage, at 3822 Main, was designed by the Hoit, Price, ; Barnes architectural firm and opened in 1925, and after renovations in 1986, became the home to the Unicorn Theater. The Madrid Theater is also visible at the right of the photograph.
