Born in Ireland and serving in the Mexican War before coming to Westport in 1852 as a western trader and outfitter in business with William Bernard, then becoming a railroad builder during the Civil War and residing in the former John Harris home at Westport and Main Streets, later moved to 40th and Baltimore Avenues as the Harris-Kearney house.
