Photograph of the National Catholic Reporter headquarters at the southwest corner of Armour and Warwick in the early 1980s. The building, originally built and used as a residence, was converted to use as offices in the 1950s. It has served as offices for the local AFL-CIO, the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Kansas City, and became the headquarters of the National Catholic Reporter in the late 1970s.

Photograph of the Vitagraph Film Exchange building at the southeast corner of 17th and Wyandotte in the early 1980s. Built in 1930 by Warner Brothers, the building was part of Kansas City's Film Row, an area focused on the film distribution industry. Warner Brothers continued to occupy the building into the 1970s, but an "Office Space for Lease" sign is posted at the time of the photograph.

Photograph of the west side of the Switzer School Annex building at 1810 Madison Avenue in the 1980s. The annex was built in 1958 to accommodate elementary students, and is linked to buildings east of Madison by a tunnel under the street. The Switzer/West campus closed permanently in 2006 and was sold for redevelopment as a residential property in 2015.

Photograph of Martin School at 716 North Garland Avenue in the 1980s. The school, named for school board member Judge Edward L. Martin, originally operated in a building built in 1882. The new building, pictured, opened in 1955 but was closed by the school district due to low enrollment in 1976 as the surrounding area become primarily industrial. The building was sold circa 1981 for industrial/warehouse use.

The building was dedicated in 1948 by the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, and was purchased in 1984 by the Youth for Christ organization for use as a residence facility for unwed mothers. In 2002 the building was purchased by the Franciscan Sisters who returned the building to use as a convent called Convent of Christ the King.

Livestock Exchange Building

Photograph of the Livestock Exchange building at 1600 Genessee Street in the early 1980s. The building opened in 1910 as offices for the surrounding Kansas City stockyards operation, and was later converted to general office use after the closing of the stockyards. Signs advertise a Boatmen's Bank branch and a snack shop as tenants of the building. Golden Ox restaurant stands at the south end of the building.

Luzier Cosmetics Building

Photograph, looking west, circa 1980s of a portrait - presumably of Thomas Luzier - above the fireplace inside the Luzier Cosmetics building at 3216 Gillham Plaza. The north building (five bays) was built in 1927 for the Martha Washington Candy Company by the architectural firm Hoit, Price & Barnes. The south building (three bays) was designed by local architect Nelle E. Peters in 1928. "When the two buildings were linked together in 1933 with a one-story, one-bay unit, and a second story walkway, the main facade of the north building was modified to match the features designed by Peters for the original Luzier facility." (National Register of Historic Places Registration Form, p. 7) The building served as headquarters for Luzier’s Cosmetics Firm from 1928 until 2000. In 2017, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Luzier Special Formula Laboratories Building. Located in the Midtown neighborhood.

Photograph of the Admiral Arms Apartments at the northeast corner of Admiral Boulevard and Tracy Avenue, in the 1980s. Built circa 1910, the building originally opened as the Admiral Arms Apartments, and was redubbed the Park Plaza Apartments in 1940. The building is pictured with lower level windows are boarded up. Beginning in 1988, a major renovation returned it to use as 70+ unit apartment complex called Admiral Apartments.
