Dome Sweet Home
-
Description
-
Feature article on the home of Bob and Lolly Campbell which is located in Overland Park. The couple constructed the home 40 years ago in 1967. Bob "thought the dome structure, using passive solar energy when the sunlight shone through the massive amount of glass, would be a good home for lush green plants." The house cost $55,000 with Bob doing the construction himself. The home is full of exotic, tropical plants that grow very well in this environment. The house is based on a Schwedler dome named after a 19th century European engineer, J.W. Schwedler. Article includes a diagram of the home plus pictures of the outside and inside.
