Back of picture reads: "This picture was taken in November of 1968 in the Missouri Valley Room of the Kansas City, Mo. Public Library. In the case were displayed books, periodicals and outlines written by Carl Betz, 1854-1898, pioneer in physical education. He introduced physical education into the public schools of Kansas City, Mo., in 1885. Also shown are medals awarded to Carl Betz by the Paris Exposition in 1889, and by the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
