Photograph of a house at 7901 Bannister Road in the 1980s. The house was the country home of Long-Bell Lumber Company president Frederick J. Bannister and family, and the site of their award-winning La Cima dairy farm from 1910 to Bannister's death in 1934. The property, spanning from approximately Blue Ridge Parkway east to James A. Reed Parkway, and 95th south to 100th Street, was subdivided into a suburban residential development beginning in 1945.

Virgil's Cafe, which opened in 1944, World Spirits liquor store, and Loma's Jewelry occupy the ground-level storefronts. The building was destroyed by fire on November 7, 1990, and was replaced by a one-story commercial strip and parking lot.

In 1990, the congregation was consolidated with the nearby Holy Trinity and St. Michael's churches in the St. Stephen's building, renamed Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. The rectory stands immediately south of the church.

The LaSalle apartment building, a 14-story building which served as apartments, a hotel, and senior housing and was demolished in 2001, can be seen to the east of the Athenaeum.
