This collection consists of an enrollment book for Faxon School covering the school years 1906-07 through 1912-13. The book lists the following information for each student in 1st through 7th grades: name; age (in years and months); date of admission; previous school; grade; class; name of parent or guardian; occupation of parent or guardian; residence; birthplace of student; if and when they left during the school year; for what reason they left; number of days belonged, attended, absent, and tardy for each term and for the entire school year. For some years, teachers' names, students' vaccination status, or parent/guardian birthplace is listed.

The collection consists of a mass-produced, soft-covered book entitled, "The Girl Graduate: Her Own Book," that Sweigart used to document her senior year at Kansas City Kansas High School (now Wyandotte High School). The Memory Book includes photographs of schoolmates, programs from school and social events, newspaper clippings, handwritten notes, autographs by schoolmates and teachers, and ephemera. Dr. J. W. Parker was called John as well as James and settled in Westport, Missouri, in 1851 where he practiced medicine among the white settlers and the Shawnee, Wyandotte, and Delaware Indians. During the Civil War he moved with his family to Nebraska City, Nebraska, returning to Westport sometime after 1882. He died March 2, 1907, at the age of 85 and is buried in Union Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri.

Open since 1900, the Folly Theater has assumed several names and identities over the decades, from a vaudeville, burlesque, and Shakespearean playhouse to an X-rated movie theater. Today, it serves as Kansas City’s oldest performing arts venue. The Folly Theater Collection contains photographs, scrapbooks, posters, administrative and financial records, building blueprints, and various artifacts that document the theater’s diverse history.

SC4 Charles L. Johnson Papers Finding Aid

Description

Charles Johnson, ragtime musician and composer and arranger, spent most of his life in Kansas City, Missouri. It is believed that he made the first orchestra arrangement for the song "Missouri Waltz" and tried to sell it to music publishers in 1914. Johnson arranged music for the American Royal previous to World War II, was the musical director of the annual "Nit-Wits" show of the University Club, and was an arranger for the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He died at the age of 75 in 1950. Collection contains music manuscripts, both published and in manuscript form, one recording, photos, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia.
