Loose mug shots were removed and interfiled with Series1-3.

Biographical sketch of Charles Ashley Smith, or Charles Smith (1866-1948), a prominent Kansas City architect. Native of Ohio coming to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1887 as a draftsman for architect William Hackney and taking over after Hackney's death in 1898 "as official architect for the Kansas City, Missouri Board of Education." Designer and co-designer of many buildings in Kansas City, Missouri, and the following in Kansas City, Kansas, with employee Arthur Hall: "the George H. Gray residence in Westheight Manor, built in 1924"; "the Tudor Style Fire Station No. 11 at 3100 State Avenue"; "the six-story Anderson Storage Co. Warehouse at 736-738 Armstrong, built in 1925"; "the rural White Church Elementary School of 1926-27"; and "the Woods Bros. Corporation's new Fairfax Airport."

Open since 1900, the Folly Theater has assumed several names and identities over the decades, from a vaudeville, burlesque, and Shakespearean playhouse to an X-rated movie theater. Today, it serves as Kansas City’s oldest performing arts venue. The Folly Theater Collection contains photographs, scrapbooks, posters, administrative and financial records, building blueprints, and various artifacts that document the theater’s diverse history.

This collection contains material transferred from the Kansas City School District to the Kansas City Public Library and the Missouri Valley Special Collections department, primarily in the early to mid 1990s. It has been divided into eight series groups and includes school ledgers and attendance books, photographs, Board of Education minutes on microfilm, school scrapbooks, Westport School District material, the Radio and Television Commission papers, and miscellaneous items as budget control summaries, property register and map, etc. The transfer also included school yearbooks and published school materials which were classified.
