Thousands Rally in Downtown KC For 'Basic Rights' For Immigrants
-
Description
-
On April 10, 2006, several thousand people, mainly Hispanic, gathered at Ilus W. Davis Park (Civic Mall) in support for fair treatment of immigrants. People had marched from the Guadalupe Center to the rally carrying signs and waving American and Mexican flags. The House of Representatives passed HR 4437 on December 16, 2005, meant to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act and strengthen enforcement laws and enhance border security. The Senate is now looking at the bill. "It is estimated there are 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, most of them of Mexican or Latino heritage."
