Photograph of Nichols Road between Pennsylvania and Broadway, looking east, in the late 1970s. The Plaza Bowl bowling alley, at the left edge of the image, opened in 1940 and closed in 1978. The building was partially demolished for the construction of a Saks department store, which opened in 1982. Other stores and shops line Nichols Road, including, at the far eastern end of the street, Halls department store, and Gateway Sporting Goods, at the right edge of the image, which closed in 1979.

Photograph of the Southwell Building at the intersection of Main Street and Westport Road, in the late 1970s. The building was designed by architects McKecknie and Trask and opened in 1929. Ground floor tenants of the building at the time of the photo include Corby's Shoes and the Dunhill Furniture store. The Falcon Club bar, described as Irish-American on their sign, occupies the second floor. The bar became known as Harling's Falcon Club in 1980, and then as Harling's Upstairs a few years later.

Photograph of the Whitton Manor building, from 4536 to 4558 Main Street, in the late 1970s. The building was home to assorted retail outlets, including a record store and sewing machine repair shop, as well as offices on the second floor. The Sarachon Hooley retail/office building stands to its north, at 4526-32 Main, and the Hillcrest Apartments building can be seen at 4520-24 Main. The latter two buildings were later demolished for the construction of the Fountain View (later American Century) office towers circa 1992.

A real estate sign hangs in the window of the storefront at 3935 Main, which was recently occupied by Howard E. Thruman Institutional Church. The Shape Shop and Love Records & Tapes are other ground-floor tenants, with Harling's Upstairs Bar and Grill occupying the second floor. Moten's Shoe Repair occupies the neighboring building to the north. Signs for Clint's Books and Bell Restaurant can be seen on the building to the south.
