He was born in New York City in 1886 and moved to Kansas City in 1900 entering the hotel business and becoming manager of the Baltimore Hotel in 1910 and controller of the President Hotel in 1937.

First part of the book's chapter on the 1880s describes the visit to Kansas City in 1887 of President Grover Cleveland and his young wife, Frances Fulsom Cleveland. Includes a description of the early electric city lights and cable cars, including an accident on the cars because of streets crowded with people trying to see the President, filling "Union avenue for half a mile in either direction." Priests of Pallas Parade, Exposition Building, Coates House hotel, Junction, Customs House, and new YMCA Building all visited by the President and his newlywed bride.

Photo and bio of Maurice L. "Cotton" Breidenthal, or Maurice Breidenthal, president of the Security National Bank of Kansas City, Kansas, and leading promoter of that city. Description of his career, starting with the Kansas good roads movement in 1919 and planning of the first high-class hotel in Kansas City, Kansas, the Y. M. C. A. in 1926, also in 1925 the "chairman of the first Kansas City, Kansas, city planning commission," continuing with development of the city as a banking executive through the Depression with his brother and fellow banker Willard Breidenthal.
