After being closed for 25 years, the Drum Room in the Hotel President is due to open on May 10, 2006. The restaurant opened in 1941 and such celebrities as Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, the Marx Brothers and Sammy Davis, Jr. performed there. "It has been rebuilt with a contemporary interior design that honors its past with black-and-white photographs of jazz greats and a restored 280-square-foot mural of South Sea islanders that was painted for the room in 1941 by New York artist Winold Reiss." Article includes a picture of the interior of the room as well as the Drum Room sign on the outside of the hotel.
