KC's Cosby Hotel Wins a Reprieve

Due to lobbying by historic preservationists and downtown residents, the 1881 Cosby Hotel building at 9th and Baltimore Ave. will not be demolished as planned. City officials agreed instead to fix a crumbling corner of the building. Scott Lane, president of the Historic Kansas City Foundation, and developer Adam Jones are leading efforts to repair the structure and find a buyer.

Obituary for Eugene Herman, one of the founders of U-Smile Motor Hotel (later Best Western Stadium Inn) and developer of Crackerneck Country Club in Independence, Missouri. He served as president of the corporate board of Crackerneck Country Club that was built on his grandparents' family farm. He also served as president of the nation Motel Association of America and president of the Kansas City and Missouri Hotel Association, among others. He was "Man of the Year" of the Missouri Hotel Association in 1979.
