There are two letters in the "Letters to the Editor" column concerning long time school educator Marietta Hockaday who died October 2, 2004. She was a principal in the Kansas City School District for 50 years including years at Gladstone School in the Northeast area. She was the grand neice of letter writer Barbara Mosley who shares parts of her great aunt's funeral euology. The other letter is from a former student, Nancy (Dominick) Powell.

Crosby Kemper III, executive director of the Kansas City Public Library, their "hero" as part of the school's Gladstone Heroes Program. Kemper is the third person to receive the honor, which is awarded annually by a different grade. In the article, Kemper describes the defining moments in his life and also identifies his personal heroes.
