Portion of this book is devoted to information concerning Methodist minister Thomas Johnson and the "Shawnee Manual Labor School." Besides being a preacher, "he was a member of the first Territorial Legislature of Kansas. He was also president of the first constitutional convention to frame a constitution for the Territory of Kansas, which convention held its sessions at the Shawnee Manual Labor School, of which Mr. Johnson was superintendent. When Kansas was e[l]ected into a Territorial government he was, almost without opposition, chosen to represent the Territory as the first delegate in the Congress of the United States." Includes a description/commentary on his murder in January of 1865. Book has to do with persecution of some Missouri ministers during the Civil War era.
