Ward, or Allen Ward (1806-1862), with portraits of himself and family members and a picture of the east building of the Shawnee Methodist Mission in Johnson County, Kansas. The letters describe his "impressions" and experiences of the place, Indians, fellow missionaries and other settlers, and the surrounding area's activities including Kansas City and the 1849 cholera epidemic (pages 364-371).
