Obituary for Bill L. Wormington who died August 16, 2008, in Hawaii at age 81. He was born October 17, 1926, in Dodge City, Kansas, and grew up in Topeka, Kansas. "Bill was a television pioneer in Kansas City, working at WDAF-TV early in 1950 as a TV director, directing many of the early music/entertainment shows, also news and sports programs for NBC-TV. He joined Allied Broadcasting as CEO, building KCIT-TV, the first independent TV station in KC." He later founded American Transcom, a pioneer satellite company. Includes his picture.

Local Fox affiliated television station, Channel 4, WDAF-TV, is among nine others placed on the auction block by a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. It appears that potential buyers include private equity firms. The stations together are expected to be worth about $1.5 billion. WDAF began in 1949 and was the first television station in Kansas City. It was owned by the Kansas City Star Company and sold in 1957 because of an anti-trust suit against the newspaper. "Previous owners over the years were Transcontinent Broadcasting, Taft Broadcasting, Great American Communications and, in 1994, New World Communications." Includes a picture of the station.
