In 1975, the neighborhood was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Janssen Place Historic District and on the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The buildings, along with all other buildings on the block bound by 47th Street, 46th Terrace, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Broadway, were demolished to make way for the Valencia Place office building project, the groundbreaking for which took place in November 1997.

Photograph circa 1980, looking north, at the west end of a home at 5410 NE Oak Ridge Drive, originally built around a log cabin in 1829 by James Compton. A Compton family member lived in the home until 1954, when it was sold to Louise Sandstrom who converted it into a restaurant. It opened in 1983 as Stroud's North, Oak Ridge Manor Restaurant & Bar. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1980 as the Dr. James Compton Residence.

Both buildings were built circa 1850 and are among the oldest buildings in Kansas City. The Manor Bakery building is visible in the background of the image.

The firm changed its name to City Bank and Trust Company in 1978. The Power and Light and Davidson buildings can also be seen in the background of the image, to the northwest.

The New Stanley

Photograph of The New Stanley bar and restaurant at 501 Westport Road circa 1980, as well as a view of Pennsylvania Avenue looking southeast from Westport Road. The restaurant and bar opened in 1975 in the building that was the former Doerschuk pharmacy. An establishment called the Old Stanley opened in 1987 under new ownership in the space after the New Stanley closed in 1985.
