Title: 39th and Main Streets
Description: Photograph of the northeast corner of 39th and Main Streets, circa 1980, including the Hotel Netherlands apartment building. The Hyde Park building, at right, opened in 1916, and at the time of this photo, the ground floor was occupied by the Adult Literary Guild adult bookstore, which was evicted in 1982 as part of a neighborhood redevelopment effort lead by J. Nelson Happy.

Title: The New Stanley
Description: Photograph of The New Stanley bar and restaurant at 501 Westport Road circa 1980, as well as a view of Pennsylvania Avenue looking southeast from Westport Road. The restaurant and bar opened in 1975 in the building that was the former Doerschuk pharmacy. An establishment called the Old Stanley opened in 1987 under new ownership in the space after the New Stanley closed in 1985.

Title: Walnut Street Shops
Description: Photograph of the Walnut Street Shops, 12-26 East 39th Street, with windows boarded up prior to a renovation project in 1983-84. The Hyde Park Building can also be seen at the left of the image, and the Netherlands Hotel building can be seen in the background. The Netherlands was soon to undergo its own renovation and be redubbed "Hawthorne Plaza."

Title: Mabry Hall
Description: Photograph of the Mabry Hall building at 4112-14 Pennsylvania Avenue, circa 1980. At the time of the photo, the building was owned by Ace Dickinson, who operated Ace's Rock Shop and Museum on the ground floor. The building is arguably the oldest extant commercial building in Kansas City, with some claiming it was constructed in 1843. Other sources suggest a date closer to 1850. The neighboring building, at 4116 Pennsylvania, can be seen to the right of Mabry Hall.

Description: Photograph circa 1980, looking southeast, of 3609-3615 Broadway Boulevard. Peking Chinese Restaurant appears in the left side of the photo, located at 3609 Broadway Boulevard. Also shown in the photo, in the center, is Crazy's at 3611 Broadway Boulevard. And further south, in the right side of the photo, is Shoequet Shoes store at 3915 Broadway Boulevard. This block of buildings was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as part of the Ambassador Hotel Historic District and added to the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1984.
