Photograph of the Thomas Carlyle Apartments building at 700 Ward Parkway circa 1990. Construction began on the building, designed by local architect Nelle E. Peters, in 1928. It belonged to a complex of buildings called the Poet Apartment Buildings, consisting of seven residential buildings named after literary figures including Carlyle, Mark Twain and Robert Louis Stevenson.

On the left is the Windemere Apartments at 601 East Armour Boulevard, built in 1922-23. On the right is the Newbern Apartment building at 525 East Armour Boulevard which was built in 1921-23 and designed by architects Ernest O. Brostorm and Philip T. Drotts. The Windemere Apartments were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as part of the Armour Boulevard Multiple Resources -District II in 1984. The Newbern Apartments were placed on the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1978 as Newbern E Armour Blvd Apartments, and in 1982 as part of the Armour/Gillham Historic Apartment-Hotel District. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Located in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

Bellerive Apartments were built in 1921 as a residential hotel and designed by architect Preston J. Bradshaw; developers began converting the building to apartments about 2010. The Carriage House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on an individual basis in 1980 as an auxilliary structure to Bellerive Hotel, according to the Register and then as part of the Armour Boulevard Multiple Resource Area in 1983. It also was added to the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1982 as part of the Armour/Gillham Historic Apartment‐Hotel District. Located in the Midtown neighborhood.
