Photograph circa 1980s, looking northwest, of the 3600 block of Broadway Boulevard. Several restaurants, bars and jazz clubs have been residents of the building. Peking Chinese Restaurant appears in the right side of the photo, located at 3609 Broadway Boulevard. At the time of the photograph, 3601 Broadway Boulevard (furthest north, on the block, across from the Ambassador Hotel) was unoccupied but as of 2018, a restaurant, Krokstrom Klubb, resides there. Also shown in the photo is Nabil's Mediterranean Cuisine at 3605 Broadway and Hot Rocks Lounge at 3607 Broadway Boulevard. This block of buildings was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 as part of the Ambassador Hotel Historic District and then, added to the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1984. Located in the Hanover Place neighborhood.

Photograph of LaMar's Donuts at 240 Linwood Boulevard, circa 1981. The building intially served as a garage and gas station, and in 1960 became the original location of the doughnut shop which grew to become a regional chain. LaMar's closed the location in 2003.

Photograph of Clint's Comics, at 3943 Main, and neighboring businesses at the intersection of Main Street and westport Road, circa 1982. Signs for Harling's Upstairs bar and Love Records can be seen on the Southwell Building to the north, and Bell's Restaurant is in the adjacent building to the south. Clint's later moved to the Love Records space and operated there for several decades.

Photograph of The New Stanley bar and restaurant at 501 Westport Road circa 1980, as well as a view of Pennsylvania Avenue looking southeast from Westport Road. The restaurant and bar opened in 1975 in the building that was the former Doerschuk pharmacy. An establishment called the Old Stanley opened in 1987 under new ownership in the space after the New Stanley closed in 1985.

James's daughter, Emma Compton. lived in the home until 1954, when it was sold to Louise Sandstrom who converted it into a restaurant. Sandstrom kept the interior furnishings intact. The restaurant opened in 1983 as Stroud's North, Oak Ridge Manor Restaurant & Bar. The home was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and the Kansas City Register of Historic Places in 1980 as the Dr. James Compton Residence.
