Joe Vento started his barbering career in 1957. His barbershop has been located on Independence Avenue in the Northeast area of Kansas City for the last 50 years. Vento grew up in that part of town and has maintained his business there even though he now lives in Raytown. His son Mike is also a barber and has his own shop in Peculiar, Missouri.

Another sign attached to the front of the building lists branches of the school located in other cities. Believed to have been taken in Kansas City. Back of the photograph is stamped: "A. A. Riederer, 2814 West Prospect Pl, H.P.M. 5715, K.C., Mo." This is the photographer's stamp. In the 1910 Kansas City city directory, the Moler Barber College is listed at 503 Delaware. Albert A. Riederer is listed as a photographer with the above stamped address. No identification of people in the view.

Biographical sketch of J. Frank Davis, "the owner of a modern, hygienic [barber] shop in the Gumbel building" in Kansas City and "president of the Barbers' State Board" of Missouri. He was born in Alabama in 1876 and arrived in Kansas City in 1913, becoming "a pioneer in the movement for a better barber business" and "one of the leading members of the barbering profession in the state."
