The Dime Store located in Brookside has apparently closed for good. Located at 314 W. 63rd Street, it was owned by Bob Arfsten. After his death in 2002, his niece attempted to keep it open with new merchandise and extended hours. Other Brookside businesses hate to see it go.

The park at Brookside Court is to be dedicated to the late Bob Arfsten, owner of the Dime Store in Brookside. He died November 9, 2002. The dedication is to be in early May 2005. There is to be a fountain, wooden perimeter walkway and a plaque with a history of the Dime Store.
