A brief history of the school beginning at its establishment in 1867 is provided. Kansas City historian Joe Louis Mattox and Kansas City Public School District Superintendent, Dr. R. Stephen Green are interviewed and discuss their reactions to the announcement.

Board Approves K-8 System

Description

The Kansas City School Board by a 5-2 margin approved a reorganization plan which calls for all elementary schools to be pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade by 2009. Several African American School Board members have voiced concern over the K-8 model--and that School Superintendent, Anthony Amato, has provided insufficient data in terms of how the new plan will impact predominately African American schools in the 3rd and 5th districts.
